WHY DOES CK SOMETIMES WRITE HE RATHER THAN I?

I acknowledge that there is some inconsistency when Celestial Koan is writing about himself in The Blog, and particularly here in the About CK section. Sometimes he uses the first person singular voice - I, me, my, mine, and sometimes he appears to speak / write about himself in the third person voice - he, him, his.

It’s one of the problems that results from the schizophrenic conceit implicit in a pen name. Sometimes the author considers Celestial Koan to be a third person who kind of inhabits part of his brain, and does things of his own accord, such as writing books, or having opinions.

And sometimes Celestial Koan kind of wakes up, takes over, and starts speaking for himself.

Everyone should understand that when a character in a novel the author writes gives an opinion on something, that does NOT necessarily represent the author’s opinion.

Well Celestial Koan is somewhat similar. Sometimes he and I are one, and sometimes his persona is very different from my own. I have my Facebook page and Celestial Koan has his. I have friends who have never heard of Celestial Koan, and he works with people who don’t know my name.

So when I am writing as Celestial Koan, I use first person, but when I write about Celestial Koan I write in the third person. And when I am writing as Celestial Koan about Celestial Koan, it can go back to first person singular again.

Since we are conjoined, it follows that much of Celestial Koan’s life, history and experiences are also my own. It seems too impersonal to talk of my / his thoughts in the third person. So sometimes first person is used for greater immediacy and intimacy of sharing with the reader. Sigh - it’s not easy being an author sometimes.

My apologies if this causes confusion to any readers, but at least take comfort in the fact that you don’t have to live with it all the time.
