What Is The Afterlife Like When We Die?

The afterlife?

Don’t go there.

At least don’t be in a hurry to go there.

Alright, that was for humour, but it contains wise advice too.

Sometimes I do give short answers. They can be all the more effective for being brief. Here’s one now.

There’s a lot of information about the different views of the afterlife taught by different theologies and religions in the CK Oracle. By and large though I am more inclined to follow a Confucian philosophy when it comes to the afterlife. Zen Buddhists would concur. So would Daoists. And it certainly doesn’t conflict with Christianity either.

I use the metaphor that our Earthly life is like a journey up a mountain. We are all climbing the same mountain. It doesn’t always seem that way since we all start at different points at the foot of the mountain. Nevertheless we are all headed for the same mountain top. And we cannot ever truly know what’s there until we arrive.

There are various rumours concerning what’s there and what it’s like, but while it is true that all mystics speak the same language, it isn’t one with which we are familiar, and much of what they say gets misinterpreted.

So concentrate on the journey of your life. Watch where you are putting your feet. If you spend all your time worrying about the destination, you are all the more likely to trip over.

You will reach the destination soon enough, and probably sooner that you would like. Then your journey is over.

So focus on the journey. Make some friends along the way. Take the time to sniff a few roses.

And the destination may hold some pleasant surprises when you arrive.
